How to Install and Enable Java on your computer:

The Blackboard Equation Editor has been made using the computer programming language called Java. To use the equation editor and to view equations written in the equation editor, you will need to make sure that you have Java installed and enabled. Here are instructions about how to do this:

  1. First check to see if you have Java installed on your computer:

    To check to see if you already have Java installed, go to the link below, and click on the yellow button that says "Verify Installation".
    Then follow any instructions on the page to install Java and/or to update your your version of Java to the most recent version.

    If you have gone to the above page and it told you that you have Java installed and have the most updated version, then move on to 2 below.


  2. Check to see if you have Java enabled on your computer:

    If you have completed step 1 above to make sure that you have Java installed, but you still cannot get the Java applets to work, check to make sure that you have Java enabled on your browser.

    If you are using the Firefox browser, follow the instructions below to enable Java in your Firefox browser:

    1. Start Mozilla Firefox browser or restart it if it is already running.
    2. Select Tools > Options.
    3. Dialog box: Options
    4. Click Content > Select Enable Java

    If you want to enable Java so that it works on a browser that is not Firefox (such as Internet Explorer, etc), go to the following link and follow the instructions there:
