This is the main page for MAT 100 online at BMCC/CUNY, taught by Prof. Wladis. This class is taught entirely online - all your assignments must be submitted electronically. There are 1-2 deadlines every week for your work. You should expect this course to take about 12 hours of work each week; this work includes reading lectures online, completing problems online, discussing mathematics with other students online, and doing homework for practice. To begin the course, you must login to Blackboard and complete assignments by the end of the first week of classes.

Before you begin the course, you must complete the following steps:

  1. Login to Blackboard for the first time: Click here for instructions on how to logon!
This is where the webpage for the course is; from now on, you can find all the course information here.
Once you have logged on, explore the course webpage for a while until you feel comfortable that you know where to find things (It may help if you read the syllabus below first).

If you have any technical trouble logging into Blackboard or accessing the course webpage, immediately contact E-Support at 212-220-8126 or at esupport@bmcc.cuny.edu.

Please do not ask me to fix technical problems; unfortunately, I don't have the expertise or systems access- contact E-Support first, and then if the problem is not easily fixed, email me to let me know what problem you are having and what you have done with E-Support so far to try and fix it. Continue to call E-Support until the problem is resolved, and keep updating me about your progress until the problem is fixed.

  2. Sign up for the Class Mailing List: Click here for instructions on how to do this!

This is how you will receive all class emails, so be sure you use an email address which you will check at least 3 times per week.

If you have not used BMCC email before, click here for instructions on how to setup BMCC email.

If you have any technical trouble getting into or setting up your email, immediately contact the Helpdesk at 212-220-8379 or at helpdesk@bmcc.cuny.edu.

If you are having trouble with your email and so are not getting messages from me, you can still find any important new infomation on the main page of our course webpage in Blackboard, which you can also get to by clicking on the "Announcements" button on the main course menu.

  3. Put my email address on your email program's accept list:

If you plan on using an email address which is not a BMCC email address, make sure to put my email address profwladis@gmail.com, and the group email list bmccmath100@yahoogroups.com, on your email program's accept list so that my emails to you are not filtered to your spam folder. To find out how to do this, contact your email provider.

  4. Make sure that you can read all the equations for this class:

In order to be able to see all the math symbols that we use in the class, you may need to download a few programs and make sure that they are set up correctly.

You must complete this step before you go any farther!
Click here to test your computer to see if you need to download anything in order to view equations!

  5. Get a copy of the book:

Click here for a list of a few places where you can find the book!

  6. Go to the Assignments Page: Now you are ready to begin the course - look at the Assignments page to see which Assignments will be DUE BY THE END OF THIS WEEK!

You can also always get to the Assignments Page by going to the course webpage in Blackboard and clicking on the button there labeled "Assignments."

Useful course links (you may want to print these out and keep them with you throughout the semester):

  • Blackboard: The course itself is hosted in Blackboard, which can always be accessed through the CUNY portal at www.cuny.edu.

For instructions on how to logon to Blackboard for the first time, click here for instructions on how to logon.
If you have never used Blackboard before, I recommend that you click here for information about how to attend an orientation session.

  • BMCC email: You are required by BMCC to check your BMCC email regularly. While you may always email me from a non-BMCC email address, and you may sign up for the class mailing list with a non-BMCC email address, you must also check your BMCC email for important notifications. Go to http://www.bmcc.cuny.edu/email.html to set up your BMCC email account.

  • Assignments Page: Assignments will be due every week. The deadlines for each week, and the specific assignments which will be due each week are always listed on the assignments page, which you can get to by going to http://www.cwladis.com/math100/interactivesyllabus.
This page is also under the "Assignments" button on the menu in Blackboard. There are assignments due by the end of the first week of classes!
